Spartakiadit (The Spartakiads) were apparently some kind of a festival that combined live rock music and sports. Two EP's were assembled from these happenings, one in 1977, the second in 1980.

Comedy group Johan Lewis & Korjaa Bois did an album called "Jätenauhaa... eli rakkautta koko kansalle" in 1977. Theater students who later made it big in the movie and theater business, their "Spartattatkiadit" served as the theme song for the 1977 festival. Student Eero Ahre performs a wildly sarcastical send-up on the everyday life of a young man who's unemployed and out of money (Ahre now works as an actor and playwright). Folk group Rytm Pojat continue in the same vein when they dream about rising up from the gutter and paying revenge to the moneymen who oppress them. Dusty Ramblers is actually Tuomari Nurmio, who was to become a celebrated rocker two years later. This is his first recording, "Oi mutsi mutsi" is an old Finnish traditional of unknown origin, with a new melody by Nurmio himself.

The 1980 Spartakiadit EP starts with punk pop band Woude, who perform their punkiest songs here. Their style was usually more in the post-hippie romantic vein.

Lola Ego was one of the very few mod punk bands in Finland. Besides this cover of The Jam's "Away From the Numbers", they did two songs for a compilation titled "3 vuotta myöhemmin" and the single "Kaupungin tyttö" (1980). Singer Pekka Hakala and drummer Kai Fuhrman later joined Päät, bassist Hande Virkki has played in groups like Shadowplay and Giddyups.

Oone Proot is a mystery to me. "Taifuuni", their only recording, sports a really peculiar set of lyrics and a reggae-influenced beat. The song was written by H. Tuominen and A. Oksanen. Who are they?

"Urheilua ja musiikkia, muka!" "No kun "Spartakiadit"-sana kuulosti urheilutapahtumalta..." "Seli, seli."

Eli Miska Rantasen kirjasta "Love Records - Tarina, taiteilijat, tuotanto" selvisi, että Spartakiadit olivat luokkakantaisen vasemmistonuorison kesätapahtumia.

Johan Lewis & Korjaa bois oli oppinut soittamaan vuonna 1977. Vain kitaristi mokaa soolonsa, muuten kuulostaa komealta. Eero Ahre on hillitön, siteeratessaan Fiilaten ja höyläten -hittiä ja Reijo Frankin Työttömän laulua ja kuvaillessaan työttömän arkipäivää. Rytm poikia tähditti toimittaja-tietokirjailija Jukka Lindfors, jonka myöhempiä kulttuurisaavutuksia ovat Café Veijon baari ja Jee jee jee - suomalaisen rockin historia -kuunnelmasarja yhdessä Santtu Luodon ja muiden kanssa. Dusty Ramblers ei ollut yhtä kuin Hannu Nurmio, vaan se oli bändi, jonka yhtenä jäsenenä Nurmio oli.

Oone Prootin Taifuuni-kappaleesta on sittemmin selvinnyt, että sen kirjoittivat Aulikki Oksanen ja Top Ranking Eric & The Astronauts in Babylon -yhtyeessä vaikuttanut Harri Tuominen. Mielenkiintoinen tekijäpari! Tuominen kuulostaa hyvinkin uskottavalta, kun Taifuuni kerran on reggae-kappale. Varmasti mies oli mukana muusikkonakin. Olikohan Oksanenkin mukana, vaikka vokalistina? Kun joku vielä senkin tietäisi.
