Löysin yhdeltä torrenttisivulta tekstin, jolla esittelin Bluesoundsin levyjä FinnArcticissa joskus vuonna 2008:

"One of the best Finnish rock albums was released in 1980, and it sported a black cover with the name of the band and the album in embossed black letters. The album in question was "Black" by Bluesounds, new trio by Finland's own Dylan, rock troubadour Ralf Henrik "Dave" Lindholm.

Lindholm was 19 years old when his first band Ferris cut their only album in 1971. This album already showed a promising young talent, and when Dave (pronounced 'duh-veh') released a series of solo albums in 1972-1975, introducing a lyricist who mixed streetwise spoken language with free-form word-playing and philosophy about life, a new star was born and Finnish rock'n'roll was revolutionized. Dave Lindholm was indeed one of the first who showed how to write rock'n'roll lyrics in Finnish and make the whole thing work.

Still, Lindholm didn't want to stick with Finnish, nor did he want to be merely a solo artist. Over the years he has fronted several side projects, short-lived bands who sang in English. Ferris was the first, Rock'n'Roll Band cut the classic "Everybody Needs Dance Music Sometimes" in 1975. Another project, Pen Lee, produced three albums in 1976-1978, and it was closely followed by Bluesounds. Four albums and seven singles during 1980-1982, and "Black" was the first and best of the bunch.

It's hard to describe the unique style and sounds found inside this album. At times it's minimalist, at times experimental (the peculiar "ABCPW"), at times monotonous (the nagging half-minute guitar intro in "C.C. Less"), and suddenly Dave lets loose an explosive guitar solo that sometimes continues for several minutes (as in "T.H.E. World"). Lindholm indeed shows off his unique guitar prowess on this album, which is forty minutes of thoroughly original rock'n'roll, with moods constantly shifting, but still forming a cohesive whole.

Have a try - hope you too consider "Black" to be classic stuff!

The second album "On" was recorded live, "Native Sons of a Far-Away Country" is relaxed, simple pop, and "Here Come the Golden Hearts" has some added flavor from Tapio Niemelä's keyboards.

For Bluesounds, singles were separate entities, so the collection "Greta's Hits", released in 1982, assembled all seven singles / 14 single cuts they recorded."

BÖC:n manageri Sandy Pearlman (1943 - 2016) oli aikamoinen persoona: tuottaja, manageri, toimittaja, kriitikko, runoilija, laulunkirjoittaja, professori ja levy-yhtiöpamppu. BÖC:n levyillä hän toimi sekä tekstinkirjoittajana että tuottajana, ja ensinmainitussa avainsanana tuntuu olleen kryptisyys. Monista lauluista en ymmärrä paljoakaan, vaikka luen sanoitukset CD:itten kansivihoista.

Tyranny and Mutation on mielestäni aidointa ja parasta BÖC:tä. Ensimmäisellä levyllä on vähän karut ja voimattomat soundit, mutta TAM kuulostaa juuri niin tuhdilta kuin pitääkin. Secret Treaties on pehmeämpi levy, vaikka löytyyhän sieltä neljä biisiä, joita pidän bändin huippuihin kuuluvina: kaksi ensimmäistä, nelonen ja viitonen. Agents of Fortune on käänne kaupallisempaan, melodisempaan suuntaan, mutta on edelleen uskalias ja rankka levy. AOF:llä huippuhetket ovat (Don't Fear) the Reaper ja sen perään tuleva E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence), mutta muukin materiaali on tasavahvaa.

BÖC pitää osaltaan myös huolen kokoelmani rock-uskottavuudesta. Näitä bändejä on niin paljon, etten jaksa kaikkia luetella, mutta tässä on siis jälleen yksi.
